How to Reopen Your Business Following Lockdown

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

Covid-19: Our top cleaning tips for reopening your business following lockdown

As we follow the roadmap out of lockdown, thoughts are once again turning to how to re-open businesses safely and securely.

When it comes to building maintenance, cleanliness is key; clean surfaces (especially floor coverings) not only help to maintain a hygienic workspace and reassure staff, but also help to portray a positive message about your brand and your organisation to your customers.

We've put together a list of our top cleaning tips and considerations to make prior to re-opening.

Traffik's Top Cleaning Tips for Reopening following Lockdown:

  • Make sure your Covid-19 risk-assessment is up-to-date.

  • Conduct a deep clean and disinfection prior to re-opening. This should include a deep clean and disinfection of all main surfaces and touchpoints.

  • Ramp up your cleaning regime - how and when will you clean your premises? Produce clear cleaning guidelines to be followed and assign responsibilities to your staff.

  • Review your cleaning products - do you know your detergents from your disinfectants. Do you know which to use? Also check that the disinfectants you are using are effective against enveloped viruses.

  • Protect surfaces - surface protectors can not only help protect from harmful bacteria, but make on-going maintenance quicker and easier. Many surface coatings can be applied to multiple surfaces and touchpoints and provide on-going protection for up to 6 months.

  • Promote frequent handwashing across your organisation with visual prompts.

  • Promote ventilation - look at measures to increase air quality.

  • Keep your cleaning team engaged and informed with regular training. Cleaning products are often overused or ineffectively applied; something to avoid.

  • Tap into supplier knowledge - many of the big flooring providers (including carpet manufacturers) can provide specialist 'aftercare' guidance on how to maintain your floor covering in relation to Covid-19. Their maintenance guidelines are designed to maximise the performance and longevity of the carpet/hard floor and are well-worth following.

  • Hire a professional cleaning company who will work with you to devise a cleaning regime that promotes a Covid secure space. Most professional cleaning companies work to complement the in-house regime already in place with the aim of making on-going maintenance easier for in-house teams.

  • Communicate with customers regarding the extra cleaning measures you are taking in order to reassure them that your organisation is safe, secure and ready to welcome them again.
